Here’s a tip if you’re going to watch Wood-Ridge play baseball this season: Don’t leave the game early.

It doesn’t matter if the Blue Devils are down by 10 runs, as they were against Lyndhurst. Or even behind by six runs heading into the bottom of the seventh, as they were Friday night against St. Mary.

If the first week of this chilly, soggy season is any example, that’s when the Blue Devils are just getting warmed up.

“Everyone around town is calling us ‘The Cardiac Kids’ ” said Wood-Ridge coach Mike Carcich.

That’s because Wood-Ridge (5-0), No. 25 in The Record preseason baseball Top 25, won its first four games in come-from-behind fashion, including two in the final at-bat at home.
