WALDWICK – Haley Larsen proved to be the perfect batter at the perfect time for Waldwick.
Larsen ripped a game-tying two-run double in the bottom of the seventh Wednesday, and Devin Burke followed with a suicide squeeze that scored Sarah Armstrong to give the Warriors a stunning 8-7 victory over Midland Park.
Waldwick trailed against its rival, 7-5, entering the home half of the final inning. A bloop single by Emily Porto, an error on a ground ball hit by Sophia Minando and a single by Armstrong loaded the bases. After an out, Larsen drilled the first pitch into deep center to deliver the clutch hit of the game.
“She’s the toughest kid I know,” said Waldwick coach Mike Kilgallen of Larsen. “Haley’s very courageous and a real battler that will never give up. I’m very proud of her, her will is extremely strong and she’s the person that we want up there in that situation.”
