The Record
Dan Limone and Brett Carroll grew up together in Teaneck. They played Little League ball together, and eventually wound up as teammates at William Paterson University.
They both, after some stops along the way, became teachers. Both have become high school baseball coaches.
And this afternoon, these two long-time buddies will match wits against each other for the first time in a high school baseball game that counts when Limone’s Bogota team faces Carroll’s Midland Park squad in a key NJIC Patriot Division matchup. It’s one of those cool moments that come along every so often in North Jersey sports, reminding us how much fun the games inside the games can really be.
“I’ve known Brett since he was eight years old,” said Limone, 30, who teaches hearing impaired children in the Midland Park school system. “We are both competitive people. We both want to kick each other’s butt.”
Limone is in his fourth season at Bogota. This is Carroll’s first season with the Panthers.
They coached each other in a couple of five-inning games over the summer, but the stakes are significantly higher this time around as both teams jockey for position in the league and state playoff race.
