EMERSON – Rutherford moved on to the second round of the Bergen County Softball Tournament after they shutout Paramus Catholic, 5-0, on Saturday in the first round.
The 12th-seeded Bulldogs Bulldogs will take on fifth-seeded Ramsey on Sunday at Emerson High School at 4 p.m.
Against the 21st-seeded Paladins, Rutherford pitcher Leigha Goldsack shut down Paramus Catholic in the county battle. Goldsack shut the Paramus Catholic offense down for all seven innings, striking out seven and allowing four hits.
“It was a total team effort against PC,” said Rutherford head coach Helen Antzoulides. “Our defense was solid, base running was excellent. We executed when we needed to.”
In looking to upset Ramsey, Antzoulides knows what they will have to do on Sunday. “We need to put it all together -hitting, defense and pitching,” said the Rutherford head coach.
