HASBROUCK HEIGHTS – Resilience under pressure has been a hallmark of the New Milford softball team all season. The Knights gave one more demonstration in a big state tournament game Wednesday.
Putting up two late, four-run outbursts, New Milford broke away from a scoreless deadlock after four innings to beat Hasbrouck Heights, 10-5, in a North 1, Group 1 quarterfinal game at Hitchcock Field. Sixth-seeded New Milford (20-6) will play at second-seeded Butler, a 4-0 winner over North Warren, in a sectional semifinal Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Senior right-hander Alexis Monroy allowed four hits over the first four innings and went 2-for-4 with three RBI, senior second baseman Shannon Springstead had two RBI and junior right fielder Casey Schreck was 3-for-4 with one RBI for the Knights.
