“People were like, ‘Hey, are you willing to sell that?’” she said. “I was like, ‘I don’t think I can.’ Everybody was telling me it was like I stepped in front of the cow and painted it.”
She’s also been busy putting the final brush strokes on a brilliant track career. The Record Female Athlete of the Week won the 100 meters and triple jump at the North 1, Group 1 state meet Friday. On Saturday, she won the 200 and the long jump.
Although she says her art has been “a way to get away from the stress” of a demanding schedule, it seems to have blossomed into much more. In fact, she’s heading to Bucknell, where she will major in art.
Salisbury isn’t sure what type of art she’ll focus on down the road. It could be anything from comic book to graphic design, but her passion seemingly has intensified through her senior year as she’s become more confident and comfortable in her own skin.
She said she spent the first three years of her track career worrying about what others would think of her if she didn’t win.
“This year, I really just tried to own what I did,” Salisbury said. “I don’t want to be all crazy sounding, but you’re not here for long, so why worry so much about what others think of you than what you think of yourself?”
