Here are some highlights from the second week of the fall season in the NJIC:
New Milford volleyball off to undefeated start…..The New Milford girls volleyball team began the season with modest aspirations. But a strong start has the Lady Knights feeling good. They are 4-0 for the first time in years, thanks to seniors Melissa Moroney and Esmeralda Reyes. An exciting 2-1 win over Ridgefield on Friday punctuated the team’s strong and unexpected start.
Bogota boys cross-country wins Maroon Invitational: Bogota continued its solid start by capturing the Maroon Invitational Groups 1-2 race Saturday at Garret Mountain. Senior James Draney won the race in 16:55, with fellow senior Danny Daurio finishing one second behind. Ryan White and Cole Geraghty also left with medals for the Bucs, coached by Jay Mahoney.
Dwight-Englewood boys, girls soccer on the rise…. Junior Ethan Weksler has led the Dwight-Englewood boys (2-1-1) with a goal and three assists in the early going. He has dominated the midfield for the Bulldogs. The Dwight-Englewood girls have won three of their first four games. The Lady Bulldogs knocked off Leonia and Harrison last week.Freshman Abby Goodman has netted five goals and an assist to lead the team. Although the Bulldogs lost an overtime thriller to Lyndhurst on Saturday, they continue to thrive with Isabella Patino, Yasmin Watt and Julietta Thron.
