GLEN ROCK — Carlo Gonzalez is a special talent. The Pompton Lakes junior, who is known as “CarGo,” is closely guarded by opponents while his teammates still look to him, despite the intense defensive coverage. And chances are that CarGo is going to find the net for Pompton, which is ranked No. 21 in The Record Top 25.
“There’s a pretty good chance if I put the ball in the box, Carlo’s going to get at it,” said Pompton Lakes defender Michael Magyar, who assisted on the second of Gonzalez’s three goals in Wednesday’s 4-1 win over No. 25 Glen Rock. “If he’s open, he’s going to flick it on. I always look forward to playing with Carlo, because he’s a lethal weapon.”
Pompton Lakes coach Rob Edgar agreed with Magyar.
“We know we have an ace up our sleeves,” Edgar said of Gonzalez, who has eight goals on the season for the 6-0-1 Cardinals. “It’s great having a guy like that. He’s the full package and he scored in different ways today.”
