Hawthorne was kind enough to send along a picture and write-up on senior Hannah Frascella who recorded the 1000th kill of her HS career. I believe she is the second player in Bears history to record the feat. Who was the first? Jenna DeFranco in 2004.
From Hawthorne HS volleyball coach Laura Mazzacca —
I don’t believe I could have written this story any better if I tried. Many of the girls on my team told me of a player in our Boys and Girls Club program that absolutely amazed them. After a huge win against Glen Rock in the State Tournament(2012) , a shy 8th grader came up to me (with her family) and said, “Coach, I want to come play for you” and so Hannah’s story at Hawthorne High School began. Hannah is the most dedicated and disciplined player I have ever had the privilege to coach and I could not be more proud of how hard she has worked and how much she has accomplished. The most ironic part of Hannah’s story is day 1 of practice when Hannah told me, “Coach, I’m a setter.” To that I responded, “Well now you’re a Bear and on our team, you’re a hitter.” To be able to come back this season and share this moment with her is indescribable. Anyone that knows volleyball knows that you cannot accomplish this alone. I am so proud of the other girls on the team, especially her senior teammates that have supported her the entire way. Yesterday, I woke up, found a penny on the ground and thought, “Today is the day.” I knew it would be tough, but with the team and coaching staff behind her, I believed in Hannah. Senior Night, the stands filled with screaming fans and kill #1,000…..What more could a coach ask for?
