POMPTON LAKES – When Pompton Lakes and Hawthorne take to the field in competition, very little can take the attention away from whatever sport they are competing in.
Last Friday as the Cardinals and Bears prepared to face off in a boys soccer game, it was very obvious to those in attendance that the game was far from the most important thing that was taking place.
Rather then focus their attention on the game the teams instead paid tribute to Pompton Lakes graduate Brad McNamara.
“Brad was a tremendous student athlete and he represented the Pompton Lakes high school spirit well,” said Pompton Lakes head boys soccer coach Rob Edgar. “I think today’s performance and the attendance at the game was indicative of what Brad meant to not just the team but also the community.”
McNamara, who played soccer and ran track for the Cardinals before he graduated in 2009, died in 2015 after battling cancer.
Prior to the game members of the Pompton Lakes boys soccer team that played with McNamara remembered their former teammate and presented McNamara’s family with McNamara’s #12 jersey.
