NEW MILFORD – Christian Correa plowed down the field for the record-breaking carry and kept running. And running.
Only 22 yards separated New Milford’s running back from tying his school’s single-season rushing record of 2,075 yards when he entered the game.
The Knights’ senior easily eclipsed the mark by gaining 226 yards on 38 attempts, and he carried his team to the North 1, Group 1 championship game in the process.
Second-seeded New Milford (8-2) beat third-seeded Becton, 27-8, in the semifinals at home on Friday, thanks to its reliable ground game and an opportunistic defense.
“It’s just another day at the office for Christian,” New Milford coach Bill Wilde said. “This is every game for him.”
The game plan for New Milford was simple. But stopping it proved to be more complicated.
