The winningest softball coach in North Jersey became the fourth member of the area girls basketball coaches’ 600-win club this past Thursday.

Jeff Horohonich’s Saddle Brook team defeated Mary Help at home, 53-28, to improve to 17-3 on the season. Ashley Georgevich (14), Julia Gusciora (12) and Deanna Occhipinti (11) each scored in double figures for the Falcons, who garnered the No. 5 seed in the North 1, Group 1 state tournament earlier in the day.

Horohonich, 58, is now 600-171 in his career according to statistics compiled by NorthJersey.com. He also has 673 victories coaching softball.

In girls hoops, he spent two seasons each at Hawthorne (1984-86) and Hanover Park (1986-88) before moving on to Immaculate Heart, where he won 258 games over two separate stints (1988-97, 1999-2003).

He spent 12 seasons at Immaculate Conception in Lodi before taking over at his alma mater this winter.

Horohonich joins Pascack Valley’s Jeff Jasper – who began 2019-20 with 1,040 wins – Holy Angels’ Sue Liddy (756 entering the season) and retired DePaul coach Paula LaSalandra (644 from 1974-2006) in the 600-win club.
