Around the Courts
► At least three teams had their seasons end a week early due to COVID concerns: Cresskill (7-3), St. Mary (4-5) and Fort Lee (2-5). That meant an early end to the career of the No. 4 scorer in Bergen County history, Cresskill senior Colleen McQuillen, who finished with 2,299 points in four varsity seasons.
McQuillen, who plans to play at Fordham, ranks right after three others who went on to Division I colleges: Michelle Sidor (3,268) of Saddle River Day/Michigan, Anne Donovan of Paramus Catholic/Old Dominion (2,582) and Kerry Dressel of St. Mary/Fairleigh Dickinson (2,566).
► Senior Lyndsey Ross was on pace to break Secaucus‘ all-time record for three-pointers made in a season (80) but cannot due to the 15-game limit. She is at 43 through 10 games, with only two remaining on the schedule. Ross leads the Patriots in scoring average at 16.4
► Wednesday, Bergen Charter (0-5) topped Wallington, 45-20, with just five players in uniform. Samantha Garcia (6 points, 9 rebounds) was the Yellow Jackets’ Senior Day honoree, and junior Briza Ulloa scored a season-high 25 points.
► same day, Lodi (0-8) knocked off Garfield, 39-32, behind a 15-point, 5-rebound, 8-steal performance from junior Jhannah Sapuay. Freshman Olivia Martin chipped in with 17 rebounds.
