FIRST TEAM

Nathan Armstrong

Pompton Lakes senior, 1,600 meters

No one ran more good races than this Rider-bound senior, who highlighted his season with wins in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 at sectionals and added a third-place finish in the 400. He was second at both the 800 and 1,600 at the state Group 1 meet and then set a school record in the 800 at the East Coast championships after the SMOC.

Thomas Gibbard

Emerson junior, 400-meter hurdles

The Bergen County freshman long hurdles champ in 2019, he won some nice early-season races at the Bergen D and NJIC Liberty championships. But a two-second personal best in winning the North 1 sectional was followed by two more personal bests in a second place Group 1 finish and ultimately in the SMOC where he finished ninth and missed a medal by a tenth of a second.

Rashawn Markman

Waldwick senior, triple jump

To think, Markman first competed in the triple jump on May 22 for the first time. The versatile jumper/sprinter already had established himself as one of the state’s top long jumper and he was second in state Group 1. He also won sectional titles in the 100 and long jump. But when he won the Bergen D triple jump, he broke a school record that stood since 1975. Four weeks later, after a state Group 1 title, he was third at the State Meet of Champions.
