Around the pitch

Emerson advanced to the Bergen County Sweet Sixteen on an overtime goal by Gia Mandile. The Cavos senior scored twice on Saturday – including one with 17 seconds left in the first OT period – to complete a 4-3 road win over Pascack Hills. Mandile now has 13 goals and nine assists for Emerson.

North Arlington made all seven kicks in the shootout on Saturday to continue its Cinderella run in the Bergen County tournament. Arancha Antunes scored in the final round as the 28th-seeded Vikings stunned 12th-seeded Lyndhurst with a 7-6 win in penalties. (The score was tied at three after regulation and two overtime periods.) Daliana Rojas stopped the last attempt to set up a battle with fifth-seeded Paramus this weekend. This is the first time North Arlington has qualified for the tournament in six years

Park Ridge has been red-hot behind the play of senior midfielder Kerry Perez. She finished with a goal and two assists on Saturday as the Owls downed Rutherford, 4-1, in a BCT match. Perez set an Owls lacrosse record for goals in a season and brings a similar skill-set on the pitch. “She plays as a box to box center midfielder and never asks to come out of games even when she is tired,” coach Dylan Evans said. “Our offense flows through her and when we need a big stop in the middle of the field she is always there for us.

►Sophia Meller scored in overtime to lift Waldwick past Fair Lawn, 1-0, and into the Bergen County Round of 16. Abby Incorvaia provided the assist on Saturday to keep the 15th-seeded Warriors undefeated. It’s the second straight time that Waldwick has reached the county pre-quarters. (Emerson is the only other Group 1 program to make consecutive trips.) Waldwick entered Monday with the NJIC lead in goals scored (39) while ranking third in goals allowed (3).
