NJIC Boys Basketball Players of the Week
David Mager, Dwight-Englewood, Sr.
The 6-foot-4 guard is putting up a jaw-dropping 29 points per game this winter. Mager put on a show against Glen Rock in December, scoring 40 points in that victory. The senior has been one of the best playmakers in the state the last four years and is ready for another big season.
Evan Meberg, Bogota, Sr.
Meberg is one of the leaders in the state with an absurd 35 points per game. The senior started the year with 33 in a loss to Abundant Life, starting a three-game stretch of 30-point games. Meberg also had 37 points in a win over Palisades Park and 35 against Old Tappan.
David Luberoff, Midland Park, Sr.
The 6-foot-8 forward is averaging 23.3 points and 16.7 points per game. Luberoff is a force for Midland Park and he’ll give this team a chance to win a state championship in 2022. The senior had a huge game recently against Bergen Charter, putting up 27 points, 17 rebounds and eight blocks. That type of low-post presence is special and makes Luberoff a game-changer.
Patrick Rogers, Rutherford, Sr.
Rogers is a big-time playmaker and he can affect a game in so many different ways. The senior came through in the clutch for Rutherford in a tight win over Midland Park last month, scoring the game-winning basket in the final seconds. Rogers is averaging 19.8 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game.
Logan Wejnert, Waldwick, Sr.
The talented guard is putting up huge numbers so far this winter, averaging 28.7 points per game for Waldwick. Wejnert had his biggest game in a win over Mahwah with a game-high 32 points. The senior followed that up with 30 points against Rutherford a few days later. Wejnert has also been good on defense with 3.8 steals per game.
