NORTH JERSEY INTERSCHOLASTIC LEAGUE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Field player: JJ Ruehlemann, Waldwick, Sr.

One of the state’s most prolific scorers with 62 career goals to his credit, Ruehlemann had a major week for the Warriors. He scored four goals and dished out an assist in an 8-2 win over Saddle River Day before adding Waldwick’s only goal in a 1-0 win over Emerson to hand the Cavos their first loss and avenge an earlier loss from this season. Then he capped off his week as Waldwick pulled off the upset as the No. 20 seed in the Bergen County Tournament, downing 13-seed Cliffside Park, 2-0 as Ruehlemann scored two goals and assisted on the other.

Goalkeeper: Francisco Apolo, Harrison, Sr

Apolo started all three games in net last week for coach Mike Rusek’s group and came up big in each one. In a 2-1 divisional win over North Arlington, he made three saves and then added two saves in a 9-0 win over McNair in the first round of the Hudson County Tournament and made six saves in a 4-3 win over Secaucus in the quarterfinals of the Hudson County Tournament as well.
