North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Players of the Week

Jaylene Echeverry, St. Mary (Ruth.), Jr.

One of the conference’s top run producers last year, Echverry was an RBI magnet last week as the Gaels went 2-1. She drove in two and scored a run in a 4-3 loss to Glen Rock. In a 16-0 win over Secaucus, she went 2-for-2 with two doubles and five RBI and in a 12-2 win over Lyndhurst, she drove in another run. All four of her hits last week were doubles and she scored four runs and drew four walks as well.

Emily Igancio, Leonia, So.

Leonia went 2-0 last week thanks in large part to Ignacio’s exploits both in the circle — where she struck out 21 in 14 innings, including a 13 strikeout outing against Saddle Brook — and at the dish. She also struck out eight in a complete game shutout over Ridgefield. As a hitter, she went 6-for-8 last week with three RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases.
