Wallington senior softball pitcher Delilah Tabaka is now the fourth member of Bergen County’s 1,000-strikeout club.

Tabaka struck out 17 batters in Saturday’s Bergen County Tournament win over Mahwah, giving her 1,014 strikeouts for her career.

Barring any significant setbacks, Tabaka will likely finish as the all-time record holder in Bergen County.

There have only been three other pitchers in Bergen County history to surpass 1,000: Sarah Piening is the current leader with 1,060. But Tabaka is also nearing her 100th career hit, something that neither Piening (Immaculate Conception), Cathy Kaminski (Ramsey) or Kim Prevedel (Saddle Brook) did.

Tabaka probably won’t be the only Bergen County pitcher to go over 1,000 strikeouts for her career. Rutherford star Giana Yaniero is currently at 929.

Wallington remains in the 10-15 range in our rankings. The top six remain the same from last week.
