Nico Cassano, Rutherford, So., 132

Cassano was the NJIC’s lone champion at the Kearny Holiday Tournament on Saturday. The sophomore rattled off wins by fall over Belleville’s David Celi and Union City’s Carlos Murcia before winning by technical fall over Notre Dame’s Jake Mulray (15-0). In a dual on Thursday, he won by 15-7 major decision over Emerson-Park Ridge’s Tony Rinkiewicz.

Dylan Cerciello, Saddle Brook-Lodi, Sr., 138

Cerciello’s hot start to the season continued with a title at the Cutter Classic in Fair Lawn on Saturday. The senior collected the 138-pound title with a 4-2 decision victory over Fair Lawn standout Carmine De Lucia in the finals. He also picked up an impressive win over Lakeland’s Mark Centurione by 10-1 major decision in the semifinals and in a dual on Thursday, he defeated Manchester Regional’s Elias Correa by 16-1 technical fall (4:25).

Gio Giardina, Waldwick-Midland Park, Jr., 144

The two-time region qualifier picked up his second title at the Cutter Classic via a 13-9 decision over Indian Hills’ Brandon Mayock. En route to the final, he won by 18-3 technical fall (2:46) over River Dell’s Sebastian Delgado and then by pin (2:54) vs. Teaneck’s Xavier Gonzalez. On Thursday, Giardina decked Hawthorne’s Leandro Solorzano in the second period (2:29) of a dual.
