NJIC Football Defensive Players of the Week
Gavin Brown, Glen Rock, Jr., DL
Glen Rock got its season going with a 28-6 win over St. Mary (Ruth.). Brown was an iron curtain on the line, amassing a career-high 16 tackles. Last fall, Brown produced 68 tackles. His previous single-game best performance was 12 tackles.
Michael Colaneri, Hasbrouck Heights, Jr., LB
The Aviators’ tackling machine played that role on his way to a career night in his team’s 41-16 home win over Hawthorne on Thursday. Colaneri compiled 19 tackles and one tackle for loss to go with four carries for 15 yards.
Mikey Rovito, Weehawken, Sr., DB
In an 18-13 win over Leonia-Palisades Park, Rovito registered two interceptions and four tackles. Through two games, he has seven total tackles, including two for a loss.
Hank Schroeder, Rutherford, Sr., LB
Knocking down Lyndhurst 28-7 this past week, Rutherford had several defensive standouts. Schroeder gets the nod for Player of the Week after dominating the backfield. He registered four sacks and five tackles for loss. Schroeder totaled six tackles in the win, giving him 14 through two games.
Jullien Valerio, Lodi, Jr., DB
Valerio tallied a career-high 14 tackles in Lodi’s 48-29 road victory over Bogota on Friday. The most tackles he had in a game coming into the night was 12. Valerio also pitched into the defensive box score with a tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
