Another week of standout performances across the North Jersey Interscholastic Conference has produced this week’s top girls soccer players. Here are the Players of the Week from Oct. 8-14.
Lila Cahalan, Glen Rock, So., GK
Cahalan sparked Glen Rock to a 2-1 record this week with an exceptional performance in front of net. She had seven saves and a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Hasbrouck Heights and also posted a shutout in a victory over Indian Hills in the Bergen County Tournament play-in round. She made 15 saves in a loss to Ramsey on Oct. 31.
Casey DiGirolamo, New Milford, Sr.
New Milford has only gone 2-2 since their incredible nine-game winning streak, but DiGirolamo’s play has continued to keep them competitive. She’s posted six goals and one assist over the last week, including a
Isabella Hewitt, Hawthrone, Sr.
Hewitt’s offensive production this fall has been unreal. The Hawthorne senior pushed her goal total to 40 after scoring six goals in her last two games. She recorded a hat trick against Midland Park and followed it up with another three-goal performance to lead Hawthorne to a massive upset of Wayne Hills in the Passaic County Tournament quarterfinals.
Maya Joshi, Cresskill, Sr., GK
In two shutout victories over Becton and Midland Park this past week, Joshi faced constant pressure but remained poised throughout. She had 13 saves against Becton and 10 saves versus Midland Park.
Hailey Welton, Lyndhurst, Sr.
Welton has shown that she can be a closer for this team in late game situations. She scored a golden goal to push Lyndhurst past Saddle Brook in overtime on Oct. 8, then netted a game-winner against Pascack Hills on a penalty kick.
Albina Mimini, Hawthrone, Fr., GK/M
One of the most versalite freshman players in the conference, Mimini made 18 saves and kept a clean sheet as Hawthrone earned a 3-0 upset victory over Lakeland in the Passaic County Tournament. She also had four saves in 5-0 shutout win over Midland Park.
Molly Ramsaier, Wood-Ridge/Wallington, So., D
Ramsaier has anchored Wood-Ridge/Wallington’s defense at the center back position over the last week, leading them to a trio of shutout wins over Lodi, Passaic Charter and Weehawken. She dominated 1-on-1 opportunities over the last week, often winning the ball back for her team. Her soccer IQ allows her to always be one step ahead of the offense.
Katie Spellman, Waldwick, So., D
A three-year starter in the back line, Spellman has been a big reason why Waldwick’s defense has been so stingy this month. She’s terrific at taking on opposing forwards who try and get past her, but she’s also added to Waldwick’s attack as of late with her passing.
Maddie Triana, Rutherford, Jr., M/D
Triana is in the midst of a breakout junior season, posting a career-high 10 goals and five assists this fall. She registered a hat trick against Leonia/Palisades Park and posted a goal and one assist in a victory over Emerson Boro.
Emily Wells, Hasbrouck Heights, Fr., M
The freshman midfielder has emerged as a threat to score this month after posting zero goals in September. She’s scored four times this month, including a two-goal performance against River Dell on Oct. 13.
