Cross-country: Top 25 Rankings after the league meets
Paul Schwartz
There’s been quite the shuffle since the preseason rankings in cross-country, both on the boys and girls side. A large number of dual and batch meets and invitationals of all types made up the first month or so as teams found out who had done the summer work, who hadn’t and how newcomers to the sport had adjusted.
The week of Oct. 5-9 played a key role in establishing the top 25 teams of each gender. Here are the listings heading into County championships (Bergen Groups Oct. 17, Passaic championships Oct. 22 and Lou Molino Bergen Meet of Champions Oct. 24). Preseason rank in parentheses.
Holy Angels made the biggest jump in the girls rankings from 25th to sixth after a wonderful win over IHA in the Big North United meet. Tenafly went from 21st to 11th, while Bergen Tech entered the rankings at 13th, Clifton at 16th and Pascack Hills at 18th.
Park Ridge/Emerson and New Milford were the big gainers in the boys rankings with PRE going from 17th to fourth and New Milford from 13th to sixth. Glen Rock went from 16th to 10th and Wayne Valley entered the rankings in 19th.
