Last year’s record; final ranking: 8-3; No. 18
Marquee game: At Saddle Brook, Oct. 19
Best Assets: The Aviators are coming off a season in which they lost two of their three games by a combined nine points. Senior QB Darren Iurato is back to start under center for the third consecutive season, bringing a mix of experience and versatility. Running backs Steven Salerno (Jr.) and Mike Incremona (Sr.) will step in to replace standout ruunning back Anthony Seidel. who graduated. They’ll run behind a talented offensive line, which brings back four starters from last year: Mauro Altamura (Jr.), Ryan Palladino (Sr.), Justin Porzl (Sr.) and Chris Verdi (Sr.).
Biggest concerns: Hasbrouck Heights started last season 7-0, but lost three of its last four games. It will be interesting to see if the Aviators can start fast again. Pass defense has been a point of emphasis in the preseason for the Aviators. Senior WR/DB Sage Scalvino has been impressive in early practices as a slot receiver. The same can be said for Sr. WR Robert Klenk, who will be leaned on as a leader this fall. This team has enough experience that it should be a power in the NJIC Meadowlands Division, and a team capable of making noise in the North 1, Group 1 state tournament.
