BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

The Player of the Week selections were made by the NJ.com baseball staff — Joe Zedalis, Kevin Minnick and Luis Torres. They are based on games played between April 26 and May 1 and statistics entered into njschoolsports.com.

 

Anthony Walter, Park Ridge, Fr., UTL

Walter leads his team in hits with 13. Last week he went 6-for-8 with five RBI and two runs scored. Walter had three hits and four RBI in a loss to Pequannock. He also had two hits against Becton.

Christian Gerace, North Arlington, Sr., INF

Gerace is batting .432. Gerace went 6-for-12 last week with four RBI and three runs scored. Gerace has RBI in five straight games and has hit in seven of his last eight games.

Izayah Delgado, Wallington, Sr., SS

Delgado leads Wallington with 16 runs scored. He also has 19 total hits and 11 RBI. He has hit in 10-straight games. DelGado went 6-for-9 with four RBI and 10 runs scored last week. He had two hits in five straight games.

Derrick Romero, Elmwood Park, Sr., OF

Romero, who is batting .439, was smoldering last week. He was 6-for-9 with six RBI and four runs scored. He had three hits and six RBI in a win over Kushner.

Everett Garber, Dwight-Englewood, So., P

The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder with a fastball in the mid-80s, struck out 14 hitters in two appearances last week totaling 5 1/3 innings. He walked four.

Chris Giola, Rutherford, Fr., P

The 5-foot-9 right-hander struck out 12 hitters in a complete game, 7-1 win over Hawthorne last week. He allowed five hits and one run. For the season, he has 31 strikeouts in 21 2/3 innings.

Nick Atme, Glen Rock, Fr., P

Atme threw a five-inning shutout with 10 strikeouts. He needed only 55 pitches to get the victory. It was only his third appearance. For the season, he has 15 strikeouts and five walks in 15 innings of work.
