► Rutherford won its first six while averaging 13.2 runs per game, and senior IF/P Dom Ciani led the surge. He batted .833 (20-for-24) to open the season, and last week, he was 11-for-14 with four doubles, two triples and 12 RBI. Junior leadoff hitter Gabe Francisco was 3-for-3 in Saturday’s 14-2 win over Ferris.Meanwhile, the Bulldogs only allowed 16 runs through six games. Ciani earned the win in a 12-2 rout of Lodi, striking out nine in five innings. Cousins Brenden and Sam Kelly also picked up wins, while sophomore C Alex Gomez threw out 5-of-8 would-be base stealers.
► Park Ridge was 2-1 last week and senior IF/P Brendan Hughes and junior OF/P Kyle Bratcher were standouts. Hughes batted .600 (6-for-10) with a homer, four RBI and five runs, and he fired a complete-game victory with 11 strikeouts in a 7-4 win over Hasbrouck Heights. Bratcher hit .462 (6-for-13) with three RBI and three runs and tossd two scoreless innings of relief in an 8-4 win over Emerson.
