    Around the diamond

    Waldwick opened the first week of the baseball season with three pitching-strong victories highlighted by back-to-back no-hitters.  ► Nick Nocito and Tommy Hughes combined for a no-hitter in the Warriors’ 9-2 victory over Lyndhurst, and Don Bosco sophomore transfer Ryan Woolbert tossed a no-hitter in a 10-0 win over Becton.► Senior SS/P Paul Figueroa paced Saddle Brook/Bogota to a 4-0 start. Through his first three games, Figueroa was 8-for-11 (.727) with four homers, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored.  He also pitched four innings, allowing two hits and no earned runs while striking out 11► Junior P/UT Trey Packen paced Wood-Ridge to a 4-0 start. Packen hit .500 (7-for-14) with seven RBI and seven runs. He also tossed 5⅓ innings, notching a win and a save while allowing one earned run and striking out 11   ► Rutherford senior IF/P Dom Ciani was almost perfect at the plate over his first two games, going 9-for-10 with three RBI and three stolen bases. Meanwhile, senior P Cal Chase threw five scoreless innings for the Bulldogs in a 14-4 win over Park Ridge, allowing two hits and striking out nine. ► Park Ridge senior P Ryan Spies had a strong opening day and senior Daniel Flaherty a productive opening week. Spies allowed two runs in seven innings, with two walks and seven strikeouts, in a 10-2 win over North Arlington. Flaherty was 5-for-8 with a homer, two doubles, three RBI and three runs. ► New Milford junior C Ryan Hudak led the offense during its first two games. Hudak was 4-for-8, including a triple and two doubles, and he drove in three of the Knights’ six runs.
