BOGOTA 26, 25, VERONA 24, 18: Senior hitter Samantha Gioiosa had 20 kills and 10 digs to help the Bucs repeat in Group 1. Junior libero Lisbeth Suarez had 13 digs.
Gioiosa had back-to-back kills in the first set to win it. She opened the second set in a groove and her four consecutive kills provided the Bucs with a 5-0 lead that grew to as much as 24-12.
“I thought we started out pretty good, but then we went through a little lull,” Bogota coach Brad DiRupo said. “I think nerves got a us a little bit, and it made the first game tight. But we made the necessary plays at the end to get it done. And then in the second set, we controlled it.”
