NJIC BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Daniel Fells, Midland Park, Sr.

Fells just had two of his best games of the year last week, with great performances in wins over Bergen Charter and Palisades Park. The senior scored 26 points against Bergen Charter and followed it up with 24 against Palisades Park. Fells also had a huge game earlier in the year when he dropped 30 points on New Milford.

Dariel Gil Polanco, Wallington, Jr.

Wallington has struggled this season, but some of the numbers that Gil Polanco is putting up are insane. He had 34 points in a win over People’s Prep and then came out and went off for a season-high 36 against Becton. The junior has scored 30 or more points in three games.

Ashawn Johnson, Manchester Regional, So.

Manchester Regional only won a single game last year and now it’s making a push to finish over .500. Johnson has been a bright spot for this team and recently scored 12 points in a win over Saddle Brook. Kurt Adjami also stepped up in that game with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Mason Mangione, Glen Rock, So.

Glen Rock has picked up wins in six of its last eight games, including a victory over Waldwick in the Bergen Invitational Tournament. Mangione scored a game-high 21 points to lead Glen Rock to the win there. He’s been this team’s best scorer in 2023.

Keanu Ray, Weehawken, Sr.

Ray is one of the veteran leaders for a team that is now the No. 1 seed in its section. Weehawken has the chance to do something special this year and Ray’s ability to score points has made a huge difference. Ray and Jack Gobel each averaged 14.5 points per game, while Jayden Ayala put up 13.7 in wins over Rutherford, Technology, Becton and Lyndhurst. Ray scored a team-high 19 points in the 50-48 win over Rutherford.
