North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Players of the Week

Giovanny Figueroa, Paterson Charter, Sr., G

Figueroa can catch fire when he’s feeling in it. The senior is the catalyst that Paterson Charter needs in big games. Figueroa is averaging 17.8 points per game. He also leads the team with 72 assists. The veteran guard knows how to run this offense and if Paterson Charter is going to win titles in 2025, it needs Figueroa to lead the way. Paterson Charter came up short against St. Mary (Ruth.) last week, but there’s a good chance those teams see each other again.

Matt Kennedy, St. Mary (Ruth.), Jr., G

Kennedy was a star at Lodi a year ago. Now, he’s the centerpiece of a collection of transfers that came in and added to the top returning players at St. Mary (Ruth.). Kennedy scored 21 points in a massive win over Paterson Charter last week. That put the Gaels at the top of the pecking order in the NJIC. Kennedy has been on fire ever since. He has at least 20 points in his last four games thanks in large part to his ability to splash 3-pointers.

Filoteo Mosca, Lyndhurst, Fr., G

The rookie is playing for his father, Perrin, this year and doing a great job in his varsity debut. Mosca had a massive 23-point game a week ago in an upset win over Weehawken. That was a season-high. He also had seven points in that signature victory. Avery Cano is another freshman that Lyndhurst is counting on. Junior Johnny Chaname is an upperclassman that the Bergen County program is leaning on for leadership.
