EAST RUTHERFORD – One of Bergen County’s smallest schools is headed to one of its biggest stages.
Showing remarkable poise down the stretch, Saddle River Day knocked off Northern Highlands, 48-45, in Saturday’s Bergen County tournament quarterfinals at Becton.
Not only did the Rebels knock off the defending county champions, they advanced to their first county semifinal in school history.
“I don’t think people realize how big this is for our school,” said Saddle River Day coach Danny Brown. “This is huge for a little school like us.”

It will also mark the first time that all four teams in the Bergen County semifinals are non-public schools. In fact, the Bergen semifinals could very easily be a preview of the North Non-Public finals in a couple of weeks, in that you have Immaculate Heart and Paramus Catholic on one side (North A) and Immaculate Conception and Saddle River Day on the other (North B).
