NEW MILFORD – Cydney Borner swears she played the best soccer of her life last October and pink was a big reason why.The New Milford soccer standout, who is closing in on 100 career goals, sees pink soccer balls, pink ribbons and wristbands and understands what they mean. She only has to look at her mother Nicole, a cancer survivor, for confirmation.
“Every time I played, I played for her,” said Cydney, a senior. “I wore a pink wristband with the word Mom written on it, and every time I stepped on the field I was playing for her.”
The color pink is ubiquitous on high school athletic fields this month, but for families such as the Borners, it’s more than just a color, it’s a symbol of one of the world’s most common cancers and making sure women everywhere are screened.
