GLEN ROCK — What Mike Line story do you want to hear first?

Is it the one where Line crossed paths with legendary Mean Joe Greene in college at Tulsa (kids today — think JJ Watt, but better) and after tossing the overmatched Line aside, Greene guffawed, “Kid, you’ve been baptized.”

Or how about when the local paper, Line thinks it was the Paterson Evening News, called him “Andre The Giant” when he played at Clifton High School?

Or just the sheer fact that for 43 of his 69 years on Earth, Mike Line has coached either the defensive or offensive line at a high school in North Jersey.

Yes, Line, the line coach.

“I still have people go, ‘Yeah, you’re the D-Line coach, but what’s your name?’ I will say, “Hi, my name is Mike Line, I’m the D-Line coach at Glen Rock,” said Line. “And they’ll say ‘What’s your name again?’ I still get that.”

But the story you want to hear the most, is how this backward-hat-wearing, limping, gravel-voiced retired teacher, truly takes the cake.

“Coach Line is one of those guys that is very hard to describe,” said Glen Rock junior guard/defensive tackle Matt Lange. “He always tries to get the best out of everyone on the team no matter what. He’s really a great motivator and he helps everyone throughout the winter. He’s always there for us.”
