In his last home game, Emerson Boro senior Pete Durocher rose to the occasion with four hits, a run and a RBI to lead the Cavaliers past Kinnelon, 5-3, in the North 1, Group 1 final.
Mike Carmosino and Frankie Savino added a hit and two RBI apiece, while Joe Giacalone and Ryan Taub both scored runs. Joe Carmosino hurled a complete game allowing three runs – two earned – on 10 hits. He struck out three in the victory.
Kinnelon looked to have the game right where it wanted when it grabbed a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded, Thomas Hatch singled to score Tyler Duffy and even the score at 2-2. Then, Anthony Bassi hit into a fielder’s choice to score Ben Stickle and put Kinnelon ahead 3-2.
The lead was short-lived and Emerson Boro scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to pull ahead 5-3. Durocher doubled to left field to score Giacalone. After a walked loaded the bases, Mike Carmosino hit a single to right field to knock in Taub and Durocher and put Emerson Boro ahead 5-3.
Joe Carmosino came out to pitch the seventh. He retired the first two outs before giving singles to Quinn Duffy and Tyler Duffy. He stayed strong and get a pop out to end the game.
Emerson Boro (21-7), which has won five straight and nine of its last 10 games, advanced to Monday’s North Jersey, Group 1 semifinal and will face New Providence – the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 champion – at Demarest High School with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
