Players of the Week
Sabrina Carvalho, New Milford, QB/LB, Jr.
During West Milford’s contests against Leonia and Pompton Lakes, Carvalho combined for 27 total flag pulls, two interceptions, a sack and a touchdown run.
Dani Daproza, Leonia, QB/S, Jr.
Daproza helped keep Leonia’s unbeaten streak going with strong performances against North Arlington and Garfield. The junior threw a touchdown pass and returned an interception for a score to propel Leonia to a 14-6 win over Garfield on May 9. She then tallied her best passing performance of the season during the team’s 27-16 victory over North Arlington on May 11, throwing for a season-high 162 yards and three touchdowns. Daproza also had another interception for a touchdown on defense during the victory.
Mia Mendez, Garfield, RB/DB, Sr.
The senior running back rushed for a season-high 88 yards and two touchdowns to help Garfield soar to a 41-0 victory over Ridgefield on May 9.
Kasandra Rodriguez, Harrison, RB/R, Jr.
There aren’t many words to describe the last three games on the gridiron for Rodriguez. The junior two-way star recorded five rushing touchdowns and 14 sacks in those three games to help Harrison stand at 9-1 on the season. On Wednesday night against Secaucus, Rodriguez racked up eight total flag pulls, two tackles for loss and three sacks on defense. She also scored both of Harrison’s touchdowns in the 12-6 victory, which included a game-winning 37-yard touchdown run with under three minutes play.
