OFFENSE
Evan Smith, Butler, Sr., QB: Smith was among the biggest stars in all of New Jersey in Week 1 as the Butler quarterback erupted for a 7-TD performance in a 62-28 win over St. Mary (Ruth.). Smith was nearly perfect through the air, completing 14-of-17 passes for 240 yards with four touchdowns and equally as dangerous and productive on the ground, rushing 13 times for 68 yards and another three scores. Butler, a reigning sectional champion, is now 2-0.
DEFENSE
James Blake, Lyndhurst, Sr., DL: Lyndhurst improved to 2-0 with its 27-7 win over Secaucus, which included a big defensive performance from Blake. The senior lineman registered 12 total tackles, including 11 of the solo variety and five behind the line of scrimmage, and added three sacks. Blake leads Lyndhurst in both total tackles (19) and TFLs (6).
