North Jersey Interscholastic Conference Outstanding Players of the Week

Michael Canavatchel, Hasbrouck Heights, Sr., DL

Canavatchel was a force to be reckoned with in Hasbrouck Heights’ win over North Arlington. Canavatchel had 2.5 sacks, two tackles for loss and six solo tackles as Hasbrouck Heights improved to 2-1 on the season.

Jesus Castillo, Palisades Park, Sr., WR/DB

Castillo was the defensive headliner for Palisades Park in its 20-14 victory against Harrison. The senior delivered the goods with two interceptions and a team-high 12 tackles. He also added 64 yards through the air offensively on four catches.

Van Weber, Rutherford, Sr., QB

The senior gunslinger was near perfect in his team’s 44-17 win over Lodi, throwing for 180 yards and three touchdowns on 10-for-15 passing. It’s an overdue selection for Weber, who has now thrown for 463 yards, 10 touchdowns and no interceptions on 31-of-46 passing on the season.
