PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

George Brewton, St. Mary (Ruth.), Sr., RB

Brewton was the difference maker in the first win of the season for St. Mary (Ruth). The senior was absolutely dominant on the ground with 253 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries in a 20-14 win for the Gaels over previously unbeaten Bogota. Brewton, a transfer from St. Peter’s Prep, made his mark in his first game with the Gaels.

Avery Cano, Lyndhurst, So., RB

Cano put together a breakout performance in Lyndhurst’s 29-6 home win over Garfield on Friday with 17 carries for 183 yards and all four of the team’s touchdowns. Cano’s longest score of the game came from 55 yards out. It’s a touchdown career high for the sophomore, who also completed a 27-yard pass in the game and added two receptions for 16 yards.

Jesse Schratz, Elmwood Park, Sr., RB

Schratz put the Crusaders on his back in a 12-6 home victory over Lodi on Friday with a workhorse effort out of the backfield. The senior bucked for 172 yards and two scores on 37 carries while also adding an eight-yard reception in the win. Schratz contributed to the defensive box score with a team-high 11 tackles (five solo).
