NJIC Football Players of the Week
Jayden Gonzalez, Bogota, Sr., QB/DB
Gonzalez was everywhere to be seen for Bogota in a 34-0 shutout victory of Saddle Brook on Friday night. The senior was incredibly efficient as a passer, completing 11-of-19 throws for a career-high 159 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground he added 42 yards and a touchdown on eight carries, and even played a big role on defense. He had 13 total tackles, and forced a fumble.
Joseph Pinto, Secaucus, Sr., RB/DB
Pinto produced 85 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries to go with four catches for 65 yards and one score in Secaucus’ 41-18 win over Palisades Park-Leonia on Friday in Palisades Park. Pinto added six tackles, several pass breakups and two punt returns for 51 yards — one for 30 yards and the other for 21.
Jorheny Rodriguez, Garfield, So., RB/DB
Rodriguez piloted the Boilermakers in their 13-6 win over Park Ridge on Friday — the first under new head coach Farsheed Taschayyodi — with 24 carries for 191 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Rodriguez had six tackles, one forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
