North Jersey Interscholastic Conference players of the Week

Pat Cerulli, Rutherford, RB/LB, Sr.

Cerulli’s mud-stained jersey said it all after the senior willed Rutherford to a 27-21 win over Hawthorne in a game that went to two overtimes. Cerulli carried 27 times for 190 yards and three scores. He added a team-leading 12 tackles and forced a second-half fumble as the rain intensified during a hard-fought showdown between two of the conference’s top-five teams.

Aly Marzouk, Secaucus, RB/DB, Jr.

The junior rushed 18 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns and caught three passes for 117 yards and a TD in a 46-42 win over North Arlington on Friday. He also converted four two-point conversions to finish with 38 total points — believed to be the second-highest total in school history. On defense, Marzouk added eight tackles and an interception to help ward off North Arlington after the Vikings rallied from a first-half deficit.“You almost feel electrical energy when you’re around this kid,” said Secaucus coach Charlie Voorhees.
