NJIC girls basketball Player of the Year & other postseason honors

NJIC YEAR IN REVIEW, 2025-26

 

Player of the Year:

Mia Vergel de Dios, Glen Rock, Sr.

The senior and four-year starter helped lead Glen Rock to another successful season as the Panthers went 23-7, took the Colonial Division title at 9-1, won the NJIC Tournament title for the second-straight year, won their second-straight North 1, Group 2 title and fell to Caldwell in the Group 2 semifinals.

Vergel de Dios averaged 13.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.5 steals and hit for 28 3-pointers. She posted three double-doubles and matched a career-high 22 points twice against DePaul and Leonia, where also also recorded her 1,000th career point on Feb. 2.

Coach of the Year:

Scott Murphy, Dwight-Englewood

In his first season as head coach, Scott Murphy turned Dwight-Englewood around as the Bulldogs went 15-6 and finished atop the National Division at 10-0.

Dwight-Englewood opened the season at 7-0 before a loss to Emerson Boro on Jan. 14. The Bulldogs then closed out the season going 8-5 with a loss to Glen Rock in the NJIC Tournament semifinals and a loss to Paramus Catholic in the first round of North, Non-Public A. Sophomore Adhara Blanc led the team with 19.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, three assists and 5.3 steals a game. Junior Isalyn Calleroz White, sophomore Paige Barnes and freshman Amelia Shoyinka were also key contributors.

Glen Rock

Under second-year head coach Sara Wolman Glen Rock went 23-7, with five losses coming against teams that were at one point ranked in the Top 20. The Panthers also won the Colonial Division title at 9-1, won its second-straight NJIC Tournament title, second-straight North 1, Group 2 crown and fell to Caldwell in the Group 2 semifinals.

Glen Rock, which fell to Teaneck in the Bergen County Tournament quarterfinals, was led by seniors Mia Vergel de Dios, Abby Grove and Anna Heuss, juniors Isabella Flaccavento and Ana Landreau and sophomore Madison Wise.
