NJIC girls basketball Player of the Year & other postseason honors

Player of the Year: Allie Shenloogian, Park Ridge

The senior led the NJIC in scoring (661 points), which was seventh in the state, and was second in the conference in steals (183). She averaged 25.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and seven steals a game as she set the career scoring record and became the first in school history to score 2,000 points. Shenloogian, who will play at the University of Hartford, ends her career at Park Ridge with 2,337 points. She helped the Owls to the NJIC Tournament semifinals and the North 1, Group 1 final where they fell to Mountain Lakes and ended the season at 19-7 and atop the Patriot Division at 8-0.

Coach of the Year: Sara Wolman, Glen Rock

After 14 years as an assistant at Glen Rock, Sara Wolman took over as head coach prior to this season. Under Wolman, Glen Rock went 26-5 and finished atop the Colonial Division at 8-0. The Panthers advanced to the Bergen County Tournament quarterfinals, then advanced to its first NJIC Tournament final in program history, where they defeated Rutherford for the title. Glen Rock then won its first North 1, Group 2 title since 2013 before falling to Madison in the Group 2 semifinals.

Team of the Year: Glen Rock

Glen Rock had a title-winning season this year. The Panthers advanced to their first NJIC Tournament and won their first title, then won their first North 1, Group 2 title since 2013 before falling to Madison in the Group 2 semifinals. Glen Rock won 26 games and lost just five games – to Ramapo, Glen Ridge, Saddle River Day in the Bergen County Tournament quarterfinals, Old Tappan and Madison. Led by juniors Mia Vergel de Dios and Abby Grove and senior Emily McKegney, the Panthers opened the season going 4-0 before a loss to Ramapo, then won 14-straight games.
