Around the pitch

Leonia coach Endre Krajcsovics has paid his dues over 24 seasons and is starting to reap the rewards. The Lions opened the year with five straight wins to earn the final spot in the North Jersey rankings this week. Sophomore Angelica Do has been a driving force with five goals and shares the team lead with senior Tavishi Unnithan, who’s on pace to score in double-digits for the third straight season. Getting four shutouts from Ruby DeFilippis has also put Leonia in contention for its first division title.

Hasbrouck Heights went into Tuesday with a five-game shutout streak behind goalie Tessa Reyngoudt. Senior Sophia Lara has given her ample run support by scoring at least once in every match for a total of 10 goals.

Lyndhurst coach Kimberly Hykey went into Tuesday’s match against Rutherford with 198 career wins. The Golden Bears will host Becton on Thursday and visit Harrison on Monday.
