Katelin Quinones tallied two goals – the first and the last of the night – to lead third-seeded Emerson Boro to a 4-2 win over seventh-seeded Hawthorne in the semifinals of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 1 tournament in Emerson.
Courtney Callagy and Brooke DeSantis scored a goal each for Emerson Boro (19-4).
Quinones opened scoring with her first goal of the game 15 minutes into the first half, and the offense for Hawthorne (13-8) responded three minutes later. The game remained tied, 1-1, at halftime.
Callagy broke the tie two minutes into the second half, with a goal from 20 yards out. DeSantis followed with another goal 8 minutes later.
“We’ve been a second-half team all year,” said Emerson Boro head coach Matt Lachman. “The goal by Courtney was a tremendous shot.”
Hawthorne scored its second of the game with 12 minutes left in the second half, and Quinones scored her second of the night four minutes later.
“Kate’s one of our top scorers all year; to get first goal and a great assist and the last goal, she’s really been at the top of her game,” Lachman said. “She’s really stepped up in these tournament games.”
Emerson Boro will host ninth-seeded Mountain Lakes in the sectional finals on Thursday.
