An amazing comeback story will get at least one more chapter.
The same Saddle River Day team that won two games in 2017 and just seven last season will be at home for the North Non-Public B final. The No. 2 Rebels accomplished that feat with a 1-0 win over Gill St. Bernard’s. The lone goal came in the first half when Jessica Yee set up fellow sophomore Leanna Tsahalis.
“We’re really young,” said coach PJ Petrow, whose team far exceeded expectations. “That’s probably the best part about this group. There’s only two starting seniors.”
One reason for the Rebels’ success is a bigger roster. It’s gone from 14 to 19 players this season and taken advantage of the school’s success in lacrosse. Petrow said that about four players consider soccer their top sport.
The Rebels will host No. 4 Montclair Kimberley at 2 p.m. Thursday.
