The hardware is headed to Emerson.
On Saturday afternoon, the Cavaliers of Emerson Boro took down Middlesex 3-1 to capture the 2015 Group 1 state championship.
Emerson Boro, which finished the season with a 26-5 mark, used great pitching and timely hitting to earn the title.
Pitcher Chris Nedilsky got the start for the Cavaliers on Saturday and he had himself quite a day. The junior pitched a complete-game, limiting Middlesex to one run on six hits.
Offensively for Emerson Boro, the team clutched up at the right times to help them earn the close win. Matt Durocher put the club up 1-0 in the bottom of the first with an RBI single, which scored Jonathan Juri.
After a scoreless second and third inning, the Cavaliers made things 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI-double from Patrick Dunn.
Juri closed the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning. While on second, having hit a double moments before, Juri moved to third after a pick-off attempt sent the ball into the outfield. However, the toss trying to get Juri out at third went out of play and he was awarded home to put Emerson Boro up 3-0.
Middlesex’s offense made things interesting late, loading the bases in the top of the seventh, but Nedilsky got a strikeout and induced a fielders choice to close out the win.
