WAYNE – Mike Coss wasn’t about to let it happen again.
Not in the last game of his high school baseball career. Not with Passaic County immortality at stake.
He was clinging to another one-run lead against DePaul, this time in the Passaic County final Monday.
Pompton Lakes’ determined senior left-hander pitched out of sixth-inning trouble similar to the predicament he couldn’t overcome in the fifth inning against the Spartans during a regular-season loss at DePaul on April 12. Coss also retired DePaul in order in the seventh to secure Pompton Lakes’ second straight county championship, 2-1, at Passaic Tech.
The four-year varsity standout was named MVP of the game after allowing just five hits and a walk, hitting a batter and recording six strikeouts.
