WALDWICK — How many times does the Waldwick baseball team put up a game-changing seven-run inning at home without at least one ball flying over the friendly short right field porch?

“That never happens,” said senior ace Ryan Moore, shaking his head.

Until Tuesday, that is. The big Waldwick bats showed they can also play small-ball during a seven-run fourth inning that lifted the third-seeded Warriors to an 8-1 victory over No. 10 Cresskill in the North 1, Group 1 semifinals.

“We were just talking about that at practice the other day,” said Waldwick coach Frank Clark. “The further you get into this tournament, the more you have to be able to do the little things. I’m very proud of what we did with the small-ball.”

The win sends the Warriors (23-5) into the sectional title game for the first time since 2011. They’ll host No. 4 Wood-Ridge in the first sectional title game on their home field.
