RUTHERFORD – St. Mary head coach Brian Gaccione was hoping to play a game in the first round of the state playoffs.

But the domination of the two teams, St. Anthony and Hudson Catholic, seems to have scared off some of the non-public smaller schools for the state tournament.

As a result, the top four seeds, which included fourth-seeded St. Mary, received a bye in the first round.
