VERONA — The most successful Pompton Lakes boys basketball season in more than 20 years ended Wednesday night.
Led by senior forward Alex Kaslander (11 points, eight rebounds) and junior forward Frank Ferrari (11 points, six rebounds, three steals), second-seeded Verona topped Pompton Lakes, 39-31, in the North 1, Group 1 quarterfinals.
Junior guard Jon Tobal scored a game-high 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Pompton Lakes (19-6), but the 10th-seeded Cardinals couldn’t overcome offensive struggles that plagued them for much of this game. Though 12-2 on the road this season entering Wednesday, Pompton Lakes fell behind, 9-0, and never really recovered.
